ISO 45001 - Occupational health and safety Management Systems published on 12 of March 2018 aims to help all size organizations to manage health and safety issues more efficiently and to reduce accidents and ill health.

Most of organizations up until now were implementing OHSAS 18001:2007 standard to keep up with Health & Safety issues concerning workplaces. Now, ISO 45001 will lead organizations into using the same worldwide common standard.

ISO 45001 facilitates interconnection of Health and Safety with other systems (ISO 9001, ISO 14001 etc.) enabling organizations to reduce bureaucracy by developing unified management procedures (Integrated Management System).

ISO 45001 introduces a process-centric approach and emphasizes analyzing the operating framework of a business as well as identifying threats and opportunities related to health and safety at work.

Another new element of great significance of ISO 45001 is the importance given to workers’ participation regardless of hierarchy. It clarifies that decision-making on occupational safety and health requires to involve and consult all workers of the organization and not only the Management, and that there should be an effective mechanism for obtaining information to generate original ideas for reflection and discussion by all employee levels.

Check out the differences between ISO 45001 and OHSAS 18001 at our slideshare presentation here

Take the opportunity to evolve your company and provide a truly safe and healthy workplace.

Migration deadline from OHSAS 18001 to ISO 45001 is the 12th of March 2021.
